ADOLESCENT REPORT 2009-10

FOREWORD


National Service Scheme, the dynamic and largest student youth movement of India has a prominent role in academic expansions. It promotes the Spirit of Voluntary work among the Youth. It provides the opportunities for education through social works and also enlightens the spirit of youths.
As part of the regular activities of this year National Service Scheme in association with Kerala State AIDS Control Society took the responsibility of providing Adolescent Health Education Classes at school level. For this 5 volunteers and 1 teacher from each unit were given special training at the 2 day training session held at GVHSS B.P.ANGADI,TIRUR on 03/10/2009 and 04/10/2009. This District Level Training was Organized by NSS in association with Kerala State AIDS Control Society.
Five Volunteers, Anhan.N, Vipinraj.A, Fasalu rahman.K.N, Sijna.P and Rafiya.P attended this training.



Introduction

National service scheme of GVHSS Omanoor conducted several programmes in connection with adolescent education progrmme (AEP) which was directed by NSS cell Directorate of Vocational Higher Secondary Education Thiruvnanthapuram . Sri.Abdul Muneer.K, Programme Officer NSS Unit had attended 3 day residential training programme which was organized by NSS cell in association with KSACS from 13-08-2009 to 15-08-2009 at Eco-resources centre, Meenangadi, Wayanad. In the light this training, following programmes were conducted.
1. INTERACTIVE CLASSES ON LIFE SKILLS

Interactive classes on life skills were conducted on 07-09-2009 and 08-09-2009 for VHSS students. On first day, class for second year students was handled by Mr. Gopakumar, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, GVHSS Kizhuparmbu. He pointed out the importance of life skills among students. On the brightful 2nd day Sri Abdul Muneer K, PO, NSS unit interacted with first year students.

2. INTERACTIVE CLASSES ON LIFE SKILLS FOR HIGHER SECONDAR STUDENTS

Interactive classes on life skills were conducted on 14-09-2009 and 15-09-2009 for HSS students. On first day, class for second year students was handled by Mr. Manikandan K, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, GVHSS Thavanoor. He highlighted the importance of life skills among students. On the delighted 2nd day Sri Abdul Muneer K, PO, NSS unit interacted with first year students.

3. CLASSES IN VHSE SECTION ON ADOLESCENT ISSUES

Separate classes were given for boys and girls on the topic ‘Adolescent Education’ on 29-09-2009. The classes for girls were handled by Mrs. Silja KT, Tr in Biology GVHSS Omanoor and Mr. Shaji TP, Tr in MLT. The class for boys was handled by Mr. Gafoor MP, JHI PHC Areacode. Classes were based modules provided by NSS cell, Directorate of VHSE Thiruvananthapuram. Pupils clarified their doubts and misbelieve regarding the issues related to age groups.
4. DISTRICT LEVEL WORKSHOP FOR VOLUNTEERS

Our five volunteers of NSS unit participated in district level 2 day (03-10-2009 and 04-10-2009) residential training programme on adolescent education which is organized by NSS cell .they became resourceful in the subject and gained confidence to impart what they acquired from the programme to their peer group.

5. WORLD AIDS DAY

World AIDS day was observed in our school by many varieties of events. All the students and teachers wore red ribbons throughout the day. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Ram Mohan Das, Principal, HSS, GVHSS Omanoor. A display was formed in the form of red ribbon by sequencing the students in its shape. A talk on the topic “Stigma and discrimination to HIV Positive” was given by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar P (TOT- KSACS). Two dramas (Theruvu naadakam) were conducted. One focusing on Adolescent issues and the other one to create awareness among public about AIDS. The entire programme was received with great enthusiasm.

6. CLASSES IN HSS SECTION ON ADOLESCENT ISSUES

Separate classes were given for boys and girls o the topic of Adolescent education on 14-12-2009. the classes for girls was handled by Smt. N.K. Radhamani, Smt. Shantha kumari (PHC, Omanoor), and Mrs. Sridevi, Tr in Zoology HSS Omanoor The class for boys was handled by Mr. Krishna Das, HI PHC Omanoor ,Sri.Naser Ahammed CK, Sri. Muhammed Abdul latheef, JHI PHC Omanoor. Classess were based modules provided by nss cell directorate of VHSE Thiruvananthapuram. Pupils clarified their doubts and misbelieve regarding the issues related to age groups.
7.CLASS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BY NSS VOLUNTEERS
Class was given by our trained 5 NSS Volunteers to High School students on the topic ‘Life Skill’ and it was new experience for both trainers and students. The classes were handled by Anhan.N,Vipin Raj.A, Fasalu rahman.KN, Sijna.P and Rafiya.P



CONCLUSION.
All these programmes were highly fruitful to the students of all the sections. They could clear all their doubts and misbelieves related to the topic which they had been ashamed of asking to someone earlier. The NSS Unit f this school is much satisfied in creating such an atmosphere among students. We hope that the information obtained through interactive classes would enable to bring down the rate of exploitations and misguidance of the teenagers in our society.
